Plans for cell production in
Norway
ScanCell, a new Norwegian
company, is planning to start production of solar cells by the end of
the year, according to well-informed but anonymous sources.
When
confronted with this fact Alf Bjorseth, director of the Norwegian
polycrystalline solar wafer manufacturer ScanWafer and also board
member of ScanCell, showed surprise: »It is very, very premature.
There is not a building, there is no equipment ordered.« He said the
details for the project would probably be set in two months.
According to Bjorseth, some of
ScanWafers’ investors own shares of ScanCell – and that’s the
reason for the similar name. The companies directly have nothing to do
with each other Bjorseth points out, except that ScanWafer »probably
will be a customer.«
The northern Norway-based
company ScanWafer is the only Scandinavian manufacturer of solar
wafers, starting production in 1997. The new company ScanCell likewise
will be the only Scandinavian cell manufacturer.
