Sanyo plans to increase module
production to 120 MW
Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd.,
looking to increase its PV production eight-fold by 2005, will be
investing 5 to 15 billion yen ($48 to $96 million USD) a year through
2005.
The company made the announcement at the end of March to mark
its 50th anniversary. The investment would increase the annual
production capacity of modules to 120 MW. Sanyo currently produces 15
MW of solar panels per year in its Sumoto facility in Japan.

Sanyo
plans to install 3.4 MW solar power system at its Gifu
plant in Japan.

Sanyo also announced the
construction of a 3.4 MW solar power generation system at its Gifu
plant, to be started in February 2001 and completed in 2004. Dubbed
the Mega Solar, the system will include a 300 meter wall known as the
Solar Ark, fronted by modules set up like an amphitheater. The yearly
amount of power production will be 3,700 MWh.
At press time, Sanyo was in
negotiations with the Japanese government for financial support for
the project.
