Austrian trade fair center may get 2 MW system

A 2 MW solar system is being considered for installation on the Trade Fair Center in Wels, Austria, site of the annual World Sustainable Energy Conference and Global Energy Awards.

In an effort to increase the city's attractiveness, planners were considering covering a pedestrian zone with PV, but it was decided that the city-owned trade fair would be an easier location to develop.

A study of putting PV on the Wels center was conducted by the Austrian Solar Innovation Center (ASIC) and included the Austrian inverter manufacturer Fronius International GmbH & Co KG and the Austrian distributor for the German module manufacturer Solar-Fabrik GmbH. No contracts have been awarded yet, since the project is awaiting another study examining the future expansion of the center, which is expected is be completed by the end of May.
