Peru to extend educational services to remote schools via PV

The Peruvian Ministry of Education is looking to solar for a project to modernize the country’s education system.

Named for the country’s highest peak in the Andes, the Huascaran Project will provide computers, servers, and Internet connections via satellite to schools in remote communities of the country for long-distance education. The solar portion of the project is for between 600 and 1,000 sites. Bidding for PV suppliers is expected to start sometime in the second half of 2002. BP Solar was involved in a pilot program of the Huascaran Project in 2000, during which it provided PV installations for 30 schools. wph
