NAPS to ship PV systems to Uganda

Finland-headquartered solar integrator NAPS Systems OY won a subcontracting bid to supply 22 stand-alone PV systems, equal to 12 kW of capacity, to the Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group.

The award is part of the €6 million ($7.4 million) Northern Uganda Reconstruction Program (NURP) contract awarded to Siemens by the Helsinki-based Nordic Development Fund (NDF) to aid the less-developed northern part of Uganda. NAPS will supply more than 1,200 modules – each 100 W –- charge controllers, and a battery bank totaling 24,900 Ah, which will be used for the telecommunications component. The systems, expected to be operational by the end of 2004, will provide phone and TV service to major cities in northern Uganda. NAPS was one four companies to bid for the PV subcontract.
