10 GWh of solar
power coming to Berlin?
The German state of Berlin is opening a Europe-wide
tender process to select a new electricity supplier for the state's
real estate. The consultancy Da.V.i.D. AG is working on the tendering
documentation for Berlin's Ministry of Finance. »By mid-April, the
text should be ready,« says project manager Sabine Siebald.

Siemens’

over
Once
the world’s largest module manufacturer, Siemens Solar’s brand of
modules will now cease to exist. Shell Solar has announced plans to
buy the entire shares of its partners, Siemens AG and E.on, in their
joint venture Siemens & Shell Solar GmbH.

The Spanish company Siliken began module production
in a new factory in Valencia in January.

meets PV
From June 8-10, Germany's largest renewable energy
trade fair, Solar Energy, attracted around 300 exhibitors and 28,000
visitors. But the fourth annual Solar Energy, touted as a »World
Trade Fair for Renewable Energies,« was still primarily dominated by
German companies from the PV and solar thermal industries.
Bankrupt Swiss
company Atlantis resurrected under a new name
On May 17, an attempt by an investor group to keep
the fatally-stricken Swiss company Atlantis afloat failed. The court
of Bern adjudged Atlantis Energy Investments AG and its three
subsidiaries, Atlantis Solar Systeme AG, Atlantis Water Desalination
Systems AG, and Atlantis Wasser Recycling Systeme AG, bankrupt.
Merger of
Crystalox and PV Silicon creates new big player in the silicon wafer
market
The first signs of change came when the famous German
architect Thomas Herzog designed a PV facade for PV Silicon's factory.
In June, only one month after the façade's inauguration, PV Silicon,
which is based in Erfurt, Germany, joined forces with the Oxfordshire,
UK-based Crystalox to create PV Crystalox Solar AG, a holding for the
two companies.
