The new president of the European Photovoltaic
Industry Association took the reins at the annual membership meeting
in Barcelona in April. Ibrahim Samak is the managing director of
Engcotec GmbH, a solar integrator based in Stuttgart, Germany, which
is best known for its involvement in installing several BIPV systems
on German government real estate in Berlin. Born in Egypt, Samak, a
trained engineer, launched Engcotec in 1987. He succeeds Emmanuel
Fabre, the head of NAPS France SA, a subsidiary of the Finnish energy
company Fortum.
EPIA is governed by a board of directors elected every three years.
Three of the six board members are picked to represent the association
each for one year. The 2002-2003 term was led by Winfried Hoffmann of
RWE Solar GmbH, followed by Fabre, and now Samak.
