Ibrahim Samak will head the European PV Association (EPIA) for one year.

The new president of the European Photovoltaic Industry Association took the reins at the annual membership meeting in Barcelona in April. Ibrahim Samak is the managing director of Engcotec GmbH, a solar integrator based in Stuttgart, Germany, which is best known for its involvement in installing several BIPV systems on German government real estate in Berlin. Born in Egypt, Samak, a trained engineer, launched Engcotec in 1987. He succeeds Emmanuel Fabre, the head of NAPS France SA, a subsidiary of the Finnish energy company Fortum.

EPIA is governed by a board of directors elected every three years. Three of the six board members are picked to represent the association each for one year. The 2002-2003 term was led by Winfried Hoffmann of RWE Solar GmbH, followed by Fabre, and now Samak.
