Hans Willemsen appointed new head of Shell Solar

As planned, Shell manager Hans Willemsen took over the lead of Shell Solar in Amsterdam from Philippe de Renzy-Martin on Oct. 1. De Renzy-Martin, who has headed the company since May 2000, is taking a position in Paris as general manager of Shell subsidiary Butagaz (see PI 8/2003, p. 35).

The 41-year-old Willemsen, comes from the chemical division of the oil giant. A Dutch citizen, Willemsen speaks fluent English and German. Willemsen holds an MSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Groningen and a master's degree in Business Marketing from the University of Eindhoven. He began his career at Shell in 1988 at one of the world's largest petroleum refineries in Pernis near Rotterdam, where he worked for eight years. Afterwards, he took on various responsibilities in the areas of purchasing, sales, and marketing at Shell in London. In 2000, Willemsen, who has three daughters and one son, was appointed deputy managing director of the Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore, a joint venture of Shell Chemicals and Sumitomo Chemical of Japan located on an archipelago off the southern coast of Singapore.
