Martin Green
wins Alternative Nobel Prize for PV research
Professor Martin Green will be one of the recipients of the 2002
Alternative Nobel Prize, more formally known as the Right Livelihood
Award. PHOTON International's William P. Hirshman spoke with Green at
the PV in Europe conference in Rome in early October, just after the
award was announced.
Cameron
resigns as head of the European Photovoltaic Industry Association.
Murray Cameron has submitted his
resignation as chief executive of the European Photovoltaic Industry
Association (EPIA). At a Sept. 5 meeting of the EPIA board, Cameron,
who was hired in March 2000 (see PI 4/2000, p. 25), said he did not
intend to renew his contract beyond Feb. 28. A replacement is expected
to be chosen and in place by mid-January to serve a six-week
transition period with Cameron prior to his departure.
Eurosolar
calls for nominations
Eurosolar, the lobbying association for renewable energies, has put
out a call to communities, companies, and individuals to apply for its
solar prizes.
Lange takes
over at Shell Solar GmbH; predecessor appointed lobbyist
Wolfgang Lange has been chosen to head Shell Solar GmbH, the German
subsidiary of Shell's PV business. Starting Aug. 1, he will be
responsible for sales of the company's PV products in Germany, Austria,
Switzerland, and parts of Eastern Europe.
Call
for nominations for Karl Böer solar medal
Nominations for the 2003 Karl W. Böer Solar Energy Medal of Merit are
due at the University of Delaware by Sept. 2.

EPIA scepter
The new president of the European Photovoltaic Industry Association
took the reins at the annual membership meeting in Barcelona in April.
New heads at Xantrex
Following problems at Xantrex Technology Inc. with its UL listing for
certain on-grid inverter models (see article, p. 30), the Canada-based
manufacturer of power electronic and control products has hired Tim
Attridge as vice president and chief marketing officer.
Franz Heim steps down at
Sunways
Franz Heim, chairman of the board of the German solar cell
manufacturer Sunways AG, resigned on 31 March. Heim, who joined
Sunways in 1996, had been chairman since January 2001.
