Conergy Electronics' wireless system check

SunCheck is the name of Conergy Electronics GmbH's new measurement and documentation system, which was developed to facilitate accurate installation and quality documentation among PV system integrators.

Using radio signals, SunCheck receives wireless measurement data from a reference sensor.

The device consists of a measuring unit and a separate irradiance sensor. With three terminals (DC+, DC-, and mounting-ground), SunCheck reports the total I-V characteristics of a system in combination with the actual irradiance and temperature. The sensor, which is equipped with suction cups, is attached to the module frame on the roof, and like the modules it collects incoming solar radiation. The photodiodes have the same spectral sensitivity as silicon solar cells. There is no wire to the measuring device, since the connection with the reference sensor is completed via radio transmission -- so electronic measurement can even be conducted in the basement. The saved data, which include a measurement number, date, and time, can be analyzed using a PC.

An installer can use the measurements on-site to discover if faulty modules (e.g. with broken cells) are connected. Moreover, an on-site isolation measurement can be conducted to locate short circuits. SunCheck contains a high-voltage generator capable of producing 1,000 V for such a test.

SunCheck will be offered for worldwide sales this summer and will cost EUR1,247.4 ($1,084). Conergy Electronics will answer any inquiries regarding retailers. js
