Dorfmüller's inverter for 700 W systems

In May, Dorfmüller Solaranlagen GmbH of Kernen, Germany, near the city of Stuttgart, will introduce its new inverter.

Joachim Dorfmüller proudly presents his company's most powerful inverter yet.

Like the manufacturer's other devices, the DMI 700/70 (the name stands for DorfMüller Inverter for 700 W systems with a voltage of 70 V) is mounted directly adjacent to the solar modules. But the weight of the device requires that it be attached to the mounting construction for the module, rather than the module backside as is common with AC-module inverters. The housing, like earlier models, is consistent with protection class IP 65.

The DMI 700/70 has a rated power of 640 W and is suitable for use with solar generators up to 700 W. Hence the new inverter, despite its humble power level, is still this company's most powerful product. Dorfmüller Solaranlagen has long been a specialist in module-integrated and module-adjacent inverters. Unlike the other two inverters introduced by Dorfmüller in March, the new inverter is not optimized for use with thin-film modules.

As with all Dorfmüller devices (and any inverters in this power class), customers looking for usage in Germany must purchase an external electro-mechanical disconnection device (ENS) at additional cost. The standard guarantee runs for two years, but can be extended to five. The DMI 700/70, with its 92 percent efficiency, is the manufacturer's most effective device. And at €554.4 ($480) before taxes, the inverter comes at an excellent low price-per-watt ratio of below €1 ($0.87) for this power class. »We certainly aren't the most expensive choice on the market,« quipped company manager Joachim Dorfmüller. The DMI700/70 will be sold only in Germany. ik
