Most powerful module from Helios

The Italian company Helios began sales of its most powerful solar module in April.

The new solar module from Helios is available at power ratings between 110 and 130 W.

The new H 1500 is available with power ratings of 110, 120, and 130 W. Helios uses its own monocrystalline cells, which are made from the rejected wafers of the electronics industry. The cells have acceptable efficiencies between 14 and 16 percent; the module efficiencies are in the low range compared to other commercial monocrystalline modules: The smallest modules are at 10.4 percent, with 12.3 percent for the 130 W module. The prices fall in the lower middle of the scale: The glass-Tedlar modules with aluminum frames cost between €4.40 and €4.90 ($4 and $4.40) per watt before taxes. The tolerance range for the nominal power is quite customer-friendly, at 5 percent.

Unlike with several other manufacturers -- for example, Flabeg and MHH Solartechnik -- the junction box of the new Helios modules is not flat, but tops the edge of the module by 20 percent. The standard quality tests are not yet finished, although Michael Henning of Helios's German sales office expects to receive IEC approval in June or July.
The product warranty for the module is two years; the power guarantee is 80 percent at nominal power over 25 years. The modules are sold in Italy, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, France and Kenia.
