Sharp introduces 100 kW central inverter

The PV world market leader Sharp Corporation from Japan has started sales of its first central inverter on the domestic market in July. The device has a nominal power of 100 kW; the MPP range lies between 150 and 400 V. Until now, the electronics company only has offered inverters with powers below 10 kW.

Big-sized: Sharp introduced a 100 kW inverter in July.

Whereas the maximum efficiency of 93 percent equals SMA´s inverter Sunny Central 100 kVA, the new inverter´s weight – 2,000 kg – is greater than that of any other inverter with 100 kW power. For example, SMA´s and Siemens´ devices weigh only 1,200 and 750 kg, respectively.

The new product was developed through cooperation with the Japanese manufacturer of power transformers, Daihen Corporation. Whereas Daihen will manufacture the inverter, Sharp will be responsible for sales of turn-key systems, including PV modules and ancillary equipment. In the beginning, the delivery time will be around six months, but the company plans to shorten it to 3 months.

Whereas Sharp aims to enter the US market with the new inverter in December, the introduction on the European market is scheduled for Jan. 2004.
