Both types are assembled using glass/Tedlar and are available in a range of seven and four power ratings, respectively (see table). For instance, depending on the quality of the cells, the aleo S-03 with 72 cells can generate 150 to 185 W. The larger aleo S-17, on the other hand, has 50 cells and a rated power of 175 to 190 W. Detmar Dettmann, director of sales and marketing at Aleo, says that the cells come from various manufacturers, including Q-Cells, Ersol, and Motech.
The modules are manufactured at Aleo's sister company S.M.D Solarmanufaktur Deutschland, which operates a factory near Berlin, where it produced 28 MW in 2004 with plans for a 55 MW output this year. The new modules are all certified according to the IEC 61215 standard and fulfill safety class II requirements.
Aleo offers a power guarantee of 10 years for 87 percent and 20 years for 78 percent of nominal power. Although Aleo doesn't sell its products directly to end-users, Aleo's spokesperson Tanja Brüdersdorf estimates the end-customer price at around
€3.79 ($5.14) per W before
taxes.
